The basic life support ambulance is a large van equipped with basic medical equipment and facilities for non critical patients. The BLS ambulance is equipped with a first aid kit, oxygen cylinders for respiratory support, basic monitoring and diagnostic tools and is accompanied by a trained driver experienced in basic life support skills such as CPR. Additional medical staff such as practicing nurses and attendants can be requested for based on the nature of emergency.

The Basic Life Support ambulance is not recommended for patients requiring life saving interventions or sustained medical support over long distances and durations.

The BLS ambulance is one of the most widely and easily available type of ambulances and thus offers quick response times and reliability across geographies.
